2004-09-26 – Bossanova Ballroom, Portland, OR, USA – DVD

Bossanova Ballroom 2004In 2004 Muse done an awful lot of touring in the USA, a total of 58 shows! They returned later in the year to do another string of shows, one was at the Bossanova Ballroom in Portland. Chris plays bass with his broken wrist and at the end outro Chris still gives sheer ferocity as he slaps and thumps his bass, what an amazing bloke! The show took place on the 26th September; the show was recorded as news archive footage for a cable access show in Austin, Texas. Unfortunately we do not have the whole recording which constisted of 13 songs.

The recording was done by a single camera but it firstly starts from the front of the audience, it then goes to the back on the balcony and then for the remainder of the show back to the front. It is an excellent DVD, playing in such a small venue it must have had an amazing atmosphere – even though it is a small venue Muse still put on the same kind of amazing show they do in arenas. As for the quality, it is great on a TV but when watched on a PC monitor it is slightly pixelated in places. It is also 4:3 aspect ratio full screen. I have merely got the vob file and authored it to a DVD, it contains a simple menu and chapters.

Muse…Glastonbury? No.

According to Michael Eavis Muse are not be playing Glastonbury but will be playing V Festival…

Source: VirtualFestivals

Michael Eavis has ruled out four massive acts who were previously rumoured to headline Glastonbury Festival 2008. But confirmed one of them for V!

Glasto favourites Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay will definitely NOT play this year’s event, according to the 72-year-old farmer.

But he confirmed they were invited to play and insisted that they will be back at Worthy Farm in years to come.

He told VF during an exclusive interview: “When it suits them they’ll come and do it and if it doesn’t happen they’ll do something else.

“We can call on old friends, like Coldplay, but they’ve all done it so many times that it’s not fair for me to expect them to do it over and over again.”

When asked about Muse, Eavis answered: “No because they’re doing the V’s [V Festival] aren’t they? They can’t do both really, it doesn’t really work doing both.”

He also confirmed that Led Zeppelin were unsuccessfully approached for Glastonbury, but denied rumours the reformed rockers demanded too much money.

He said: “The money didn’t come into it, but the fact that Robert Plant is going to America with Alison Krauss during that period means that they are not available. It was nothing to do with money whatsoever.”

Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, from 27-29 June. Stay posted for the full interview with Michael Eavis and more exclusive Glastonbury news.

1999-11-10 MCM Café Paris – DVD

MCM Cafe 1999MCM Café is one of the best early Muse DVD’s in existence, it contains early songs such as Recess, Do We Need This and Execution Commentary. Sounds good ‘ey! According to MuseWiki the gig was broadcast live on the MCM TV Channel. Muse played a total of twelve songs with many crunching riffs in between tracks, when I watched it I paused for a moment because Matt was playing the same riff that he played at Glastonbury 2004 at the end when he was stood on top of his Marshall amp!

According to Matt there were “about 500 inside and about 500 trying to get in.” Obviously the remaining 500 outside were refused entry as the venue being full. Again according to Matt “the gig was fuck*ng crazy, people falling all over the stage” – oh the good old days!!! Hopefully next tour there will be more small intimate gigs!

As for the quality of the gig it isn’t great although it ain’t bad considering it is an old recording. I do not know the exact lineage, I am merely guessing the beginning of it. Obviously it is from a VHS tape, transferred to MPG through a PC then for some reason converted to .avi. Pinkegomuse (from the DC++ Hub) converted it from .avi to MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc 3.0 Express and then authored the compliant DVD/MPG file using Adobe Encore DVD 1.5.

2006-08-28 – ‘Live From Abbey Road’ – FLAC

Using the High Definition source of Muse ‘Live From Abbey Road’ (you can view the previous post here) I demuxed and converted the audio to FLAC.

EBSHD broadcast their HD audio stream in AC3 at 384kbps which I think is worthwhile preserving into FLAC, some may disagree I see their reasoning but its done. Anyway as you can imagine the quality is perfect, just listening to it you can hear the complete difference from the DVB broadcast audio which was 192kbps.
