Matt Talks With J-Mag

Matt is in this months “J-Mag”. (A magazine owned by Triple J.)

I’m betting the new album will be stripped back, recorded on four tracks with a mix like a muddy Ramones disc.. just how wrong am I?

We’ve always been into using whatever is the latest technologies and recording methods. To be honest, we are not keen at all on deliberate lo-fi recording techniques, as it seems to be a tribute to the past. I’m more interested in the future. So the album sounds contemporary, not retro!

Can you guys talk us through what sort of studio set-up you have over there in Italy?

It’s a set up in a series of underground bunker type rooms, contructed inside a mountain with a lift required to get down to the rooms. It would be possible to survive a direct hit from a nuclear bomb if you were in the deepest room with a few cans of baked beans and a gas mask. We don’t have any large live rooms, just lots of small rooms, so, for example, we have one room full of guitar amps, one room full of bass rigs, one room full of drums, one room full of tinned food, etc… with some windows connecting some of the rooms.

Linkin Park Want Muse’s Crown

Chester Bennington, from Linkin Park, has expressed his desire to take Muse’s throne as the world’s best live act. Linkin Park will be performing alongside Nine Inch Nails and Metallica at this year’s Sonisphere Festival, Knebworth, 1-2 August.

“They’re one of the best – if not the best – live performing bands in the world at the moment,” he said about Muse, adding “We need to fucking kick some ass.” – Chester Bennington

It’s a good plan, but no.

Glastonbury Rumour Intensifies

Michael Eavis (or someone pretending to be him) recently posted this on his Twitter account:

‘We have had some resistance from the black holes forming around the Park Stage, hopefully we should have that sorted before you all arrive!’

The authenticity of the Twitter account is, however, unknown. This latest message agrees with previous rumours – the original tip-off by Mr. X on our forums, and an article in Kerrang! Magazine claiming that a ‘big band’ beginning with the letter M would be turning up to play a secret set at the festival.

This rumour conflicts with Musewire’s latest Twitter message, stating that Muse will be heading to NY tomorrow for Mastering and Partying.

We will find out soon enough one way or another!

EDIT:
I have been informed by a good source that Muse are not set to play a secret Glastonbury gig this weekend.

This throws Mr. X’s claims out of the water and also coincides seen as though Muse are going to USA to master the album…and partay! – Paul

EDIT 2:

NME have also confirmed Muse nor Coldplay will be playing this year.

Rating:
Video: A+
Audio: A+

Tapers Notes:
“I have made a revision of MBDVD002 as I recieved a higher quality source.

Thanks to Takafumi for recording the HD broadcast and thanks to Phil for supplying me with this. I put this through Sony Vegas and downscaled it to a DVD MPEG-2 at the highest setting. I used the Dead Star MP4 official release and included this at the beginning of the video footage. I used the audio from the previous release as it was higher quality. I added a AC3 5.1 upmix, I used Plogue Bidule to create the upmix then transcoded it to AC3 448kbps using EACto.

Thanks to Benit for the art, looks great.

The video is interlaced, if you are watching this on your PC use VLC and on the video option click deinterlace. It will look perfectly fine on a TV.” – Paul
