Warner Bros. Returning Muse To YouTube
![]()
LOS ANGELES — Warner Music Group Corp. has agreed to return songs and music videos from its artists to the YouTube video site, after a monthslong boycott over what it called unfair terms, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The deal would involve sharing advertising revenue with the Google Inc. unit on music videos provided by Warner from artists such as T.I., Red Hot Chili Peppers and Michael Buble, as well as on song streams uploaded by users, said the person.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because a formal deal has not yet been announced.
In December, Warner Music pulled all of its music from YouTube, saying the payments it received did not fairly compensate the label or its artists and songwriters.
Under the new arrangement, Warner will gain a greater share of advertising revenue because it is also bearing the burden of selling ads, for which it will contract a third-party agency. Artists will have individual channels that will allow for greater fan interaction but also give advertisers a more defined demographic for marketers to target.
It was not immediately clear when the channels would launch.
A Warner Music Group spokesman declined to comment. A YouTube spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

After starting their world tour in the very town in which they formed, Muse are now talking their grandiose new album “The Resistance” to the masses. Jude Rogers visits their inner sanctum to discover what’s in store for this year’s mega-shows…
Down the rails, through the waves, past the red, jagged rocks, across town, up the lane and in a world beyond the mystical powers of sat nav, it is there – a house in a clearing, made of pale wood and glass, fed by gurgling water from a nearby stream. Sheep bleat in the fields and blue skies nose through the windows at the three local boys who have come home together. The blond one smiles, smoking a fag on an exercise bike out on the cloud shrouded balcony; his friend with brown eyes grins at the bagels in the kitchen; while the third lopes around, his hair in dark spikes, eating the first of a hundred fig rolls.

Como Lake, an hour north of Milan. This is where the rich of the world find a quiet place and think themselves lucky. But just a nice house on a top location wasn’t enough for Matthew Bellamy; he decided to build headquarters there, for him and his companions Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard, or Muse. Far away from hometown Teignmouth, the three-piece put together their third studio album The Resistance, a robust collection of spacerock, that fuses futuristic ideas and classical vibes into an all-including ‘sonic boom’. OOR stayed in and around Muse HQ for two days and came back with singing ears, sunburned and nuclear-proof.

Invited in Italy, on Lake Como shore where Matthew Bellamy settled down, we had the privilege to listen to “The Resistance” in the studio where Muse recorded it. A 5th album, incisive and blowing away. The English trio doesn’t seem to be decided to disappoint us at all. An exciting reunion with a Matt in top form.
At first listening, this new album is perhaps more accessible, simple and straight…
MB: Really? Super! I think that it was a very good idea to produce it on our own. We did exactly what we wanted to and I hope that people will hear it. I think some ideas on the two previous albums were put aside; we wanted to bring them back on this album. Finally, that’s pure Muse, if there must be a sound, this is this one, and this is us. All decisions were made by the 3 of us.
Matt Bellamy Clarifies Views on “File Sharing”
Matt Bellamy recently posted a thread on the Muse Messageboard, going further into the industries affected by illegal file sharing. This is a follow up to his previous response to Lily Allen on the matter.

“A few clarifications are needed! (Some of you think this was well thought out, but I swear I wrote it in 10 minutes after a few drinks without going too deep!):
- When I say tax I don’t mean governmental tax, I mean a new law where ISPs have to pay copyright owners a share of the revenue that is generated from broadband subscriptions in acknowledgement of the value that the sharing of copyrighted content online has to those subscriptions and the profitability of the ISPs.

Unhinged and UneditedResisting Thoughtless Music
MUSE felt they could go off the deep end for their next album. Turns out that’s exactly what they did, as they tell Sasha Perera.
With four successful albums under their belt, UK band Muse have established themselves as one of the most dynamic and interesting rock outfits around. Their live performances have been hailed for their ferocious sweat-fuelled energy and entertaining embrace of theatrical stage technology. Audiences in Australia have had the chance to see the band grow onstage over the last decade or so- most recently with their arena headline tour in November 2007. Rumours abound that they’ll be back again soon for one of the big summer festivals.
